Now that the bottles are empty and the fireworks over...I take a look back at 2018. Hip Hop's dead, I don't think so.

With the state of Hip Hop seemingly getting worse by the day, the mumble rap era the outrage from 'heads' at an all time high it was an amazing year for Hip Hop.

Every sub genre of hip hop seemed to flourish this year from underground to pop to yes even mumble rap seemed to evolve and improve.

Personally for me the highlights of the year were the amount of amazing content that came out this year, a few exceptional beefs and most notably Kendrick Lamar's Pulitzer for music, making it Hip Hops second Pulitzer Prize (Lin-Manuel Miranda "Hamilton" being the first). Some of the artists that dropped albums this year I enjoyed are: Planet Asia, Paul Wall, Cellski, O.C., Onyx, Snoop, Mitchy Slick, Currensy, Black Milk, Skyzoo, Roc Marciano, Phonte, Murs, Domo Genesis, Czarface, Blu and Nottz, Knxledge, Jim Jones, Freddie Gibbs, T.I., Warm Brew, Shad, Action Bronson, Termanology, Problem, The Alchemist, and many many others.

My Personal top ten from this year (in no particular order)

1. Kendrick Lamar - Damn

2. Jay Rock - Redemption

3. Evidence - Weather or Not

4. Royce 5'9 - Book of Ryan

5. Nipsey Hussle - Victory Lap

6. J. Cole - KOD

7. PRhyme - PRhyme 2

8. Anderson .Paak - Oxnard

9. Bun B - Return of the Trill

10. Joell Ortiz & Apollo Brown - Mona Lisa

Honorable Mentions: Ice Cube - Everythings Corrupt, Everlast - Whitey Ford's House of Pain, Eminem - Kamikaze, Pusha T - Daytona, Black Thought - Streams of Thought Vol. 1 & 2, Masta Ace

Highlights of the beefs this year would be the the exchanges between Eminem and MGK, Pusha T vs Drake and most recently Tory Lanez vs. Joyner Lucas (I covered these beefs in other posts)

I am sure I missed many dope albums, releases and content, but this was a personal overview of the year from me and a good jump off point for people to dig in for themselves.

R.I.P to DJ Ready Red, MacMiller, XXXtencion and all the other members of Hip Hop we lost this year.
